WFC Biennial Congress JAPAN COUNTRY REPORT 2017 Washington DC USA& Assembly

March 13th 2017

For the 14th WFC Assembly Country Report

The Japanese Association of Chiropractors (JAC) has 420 members including students and has affiliated with Tokyo College of Chiropractic, which is the only CCEA accredited school in Japan.

We also have a self-regulated chiropractic registration body, the Japan Chiropractic Register (JCR) which administers a registration exam every year with the assistance of the International Board of Chiropractic Examiners (IBCE). The JCR regularly submits the list of its registrants who passed the exam to the Director of the Medical Professions Division, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW). In a sports field, the JAC cooperates with the Japan Federation of Chiropractic Sportive (J-FOCS) to promote chiropractic care to the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games for the Tokyo 2020.

Last November we celebrated the 100th anniversary since chiropractic was introduced to Japan by Saburo Kawaguchi in 1916. Our centennial anniversary event, the Health Forum 2016, was entitled "Healthy Life Expectancy in Japan's Super-aging Society" and took place in Yokohama. It was sponsored by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), and hugely successful. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) is introducing vocational universities for training specialists in many fields and the Ministry has suggested that the chiropractic profession encourages Tokyo College of Chiropractic to upgrade to a university status in order to gain full government recognition as higher education.

As a part of the international community, our aim is always upholding a world-class ethical, respectful chiropractic profession.
