WFC Biennial Congress & AssemblyJAPAN COUNTRY REPORT 2019 Berlin Germany
March 18th 2019
For the 15th WFC Assembly Country Report
The Japanese Association of Chiropractors (JAC) has 430 members including student members. The JAC is affiliated with the Tokyo College of Chiropractic, the only accredited school in Japan. Currently there is no legislation covering the chiropractic profession in Japan and it is estimated that about 20,000 people are claiming to 'practice chiropractic'.
The Japan Chiropractic Register (JCR) is a self-regulated body which administers a registration exam provided by the International Board of Chiropractic Examiners (IBCE). It also regularly submits the list of JCR registrants to the Director of the Medical Professions Division of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW). Currently 550 people are registered by the JCR.
Last year the JAC re-started its research arm, the Japanese Society of Chiropractic Science (JSCS), which held its 9th Annual Research Conference in Chiba last November. With over 100 delegates in attendance, there was a variety of research presentations by both chiropractors and medical researchers including a neurophysiologist, an orthopedic doctor and a physiotherapist.
Next year the 2020 Olympics will be held in Tokyo and many foreign athletes and tourists will visit our city. We are expecting that many of these will request chiropractic care, and that this will be a good message to promote chiropractic widely throughout Japan. The next WFC Biennial Congress after Berlin will also be held in Tokyo in 2121. On behalf of the Japanese Association of Chiropractors, we would like to welcome you all to Tokyo in 2021!
